FAQS
What is a pocket mask and why is it used?
A pocket mask is a barrier device used to deliver rescue breaths during CPR. It sits over the patient's mouth and nose, and a one-way valve lets your breath through to the patient while stopping anything coming back the other way. It means you can give effective rescue breaths without direct mouth-to-mouth contact — which matters for infection control, and makes it far more likely a responder will actually deliver breaths rather than hesitate.
Does my pocket mask certificate expire?
This Statement of Completion has no formal expiry. However, skills fade, and organisations often set their own currency expectations — NSW Police Force applicants have generally been expected to hold first aid certification with a minimum period of currency at the time their application is submitted. If you're applying, check the current requirement with the NSW Police Recruitment Branch and refresh alongside your annual CPR update.
Will NSW Police accept a certificate from an online course?
Our Statement of Completion is issued by ABC Licence Training Pty Ltd, RTO 3399, and states clearly that you've completed pocket mask training.
Recruitment requirements and what's accepted can change, so if you're submitting an application we strongly recommend confirming current requirements directly with the NSW Police Recruitment Branch before you enrol. We'd rather you check first than buy something you don't need.
What happens if I don't pass the quiz?
[You get as many attempts to pass as needed. You can review the course material and attempt the quiz again. There's no extra charge and no time limit, so there's no pressure to get it right first go.
Can I complete the course on my phone?
Yes. The course runs in your web browser, so you can complete it on a phone, tablet or computer wherever you've got a reliable internet connection. Handy if you're working through it in a break rather than sitting at a desk.
