What do I have to do before class?
eLearning - Completed at your own pace, prior to the face-to-face training sessions.
eLearning will require internet access.
eLearning consists of learning materials and multiple choice questions
It takes most students between 2-3hours, depending on your internet connection and prior knowlege.
You can do this on your phone, but you will need to use the landscape view.
It is easier to do it on a bigger device where possible.
You can log in, and out on any device
How long is this class?
Face-to-face practical assessment takes 2 days of 8 hours.
What do I have to do in class?

Perform the recovery position

Perform CPR on an adult on the floor (incl. the use of an AED,)

Perform CPR on an infant

✅ Anaphylaxis (Severe Allergic Reaction)

Learn how to recognise signs of anaphylaxis fast

Practise using an EpiPen® auto-injector on a training device

Understand when and how to call for help

✅ Asthma

Simulate helping someone having an asthma attack

Use a reliever puffer and spacer (on a training mannequin)

Learn to calmly guide someone through their action plan
-
✅ Threatening & Non-life-threatening Bleeding

Apply direct pressure and dress minor cuts and grazes

Use gloves, dressings, and bandages from a real kit
-
Learn the difference between minor bleeding and serious bleeds

✅ Choking
-
Practise back blows and chest thrusts (on a manikin)

Learn the signs of partial vs complete airway blockage

Understand when CPR might be needed if choking escalates

✅ Envenomation (Snake, Spider, or Marine Stings)
-
Practise the pressure immobilisation technique using real bandages
-
Wrap a limb correctly to slow venom spread

Learn why movement can make it worse — and how to stay calm
-
✅ Fractures, Dislocations, Sprains & Strains
-
Use slings, splints, and bandages to immobilise injuries
-
Practise with both upper and lower limbs
-
Understand when to call 000 and what to do while waiting

✅ Minor Wound Cleaning & Dressing

Clean a simulated wound using saline and gauze
-
Apply appropriate dressings without contaminating the area

Learn hygiene basics for wound care

✅ Nosebleeds

Position a person safely and apply correct pressure

Know what not to do (like tipping the head back!)

Learn when a nosebleed needs medical help

✅ Shock (Body shutting down from injury or trauma)

Recognise early signs of shock (pale, cold skin, fast breathing)

Learn how to lie someone down safely
You’ll be asked to respond to at least one simulated first aid incident where you won’t know the casualty’s condition in advance. You'll need to:

Identify the illness or injury using history, signs, and symptoms

Use PPE as required
-
Conduct a secondary survey (head-to-toe)
-
Assess vital signs:

Respiration rate
-
Pulse
-
Temperature
-
Level of consciousness
-
Provide the right first aid treatment
-
Convey key details to emergency services OR provide aftercare advice

Deliver an accurate verbal & written report
-
Review the incident with your trainer or team
-
You’ll also complete a basic triage in a simulated multiple-casualty incident, where you’ll decide who needs help first and why.
What will I learn?

You’ll learn how to:

Deliver effective CPR that meets Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines

Use an AED (automated external defibrillator)

Handle real-life complications like vomiting or regurgitation & life threatening bleeding

Rotate safely with other first aiders to maintain compressions

How to hand over to emergency services with clarity and confidence

How to reflect on the incident and spot signs of psychological stress (in yourself and others)

What to do to improve your own response time and skills after an incident.

Practise keeping a person warm, calm, and breathing well until help arrives

When and how to apply pressure immobilisation

Which signs point to serious vs minor injuries

How to safely improvise with limited equipment

How to use PPE properly in remote environments

This isn’t just theory.
It’s practical, confidence-building training that prepares you to act — not freeze — in a moment of crisis.
Entry Requirements
Students must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. This is required prior to enrolments being processed. You will be guided through this in your enrollement.
