What do I have to do before class?

 

eLearning - Completed at your own pace, prior to the zoom training sessions. 

eLearning will require internet access.

eLearning consists of learning materials and multiple choice questions

It takes most students between 2-3 hours, depending on your internet connection and prior knowlege.

You can do this on your phone, but you will need to use the landscape view.

It is easier to do it on a bigger device where possible.

You can log in, and out on any device

How long is this class?

 

Zoom practical assessment takes 30-60 minutes.

What will I learn?

  • How to assess pain and identify when analgesic drugs are appropriate in a first aid situation.

  • The safe and correct dosage and use of analgesics, including understanding contraindications and precautions.

  • Principles of casualty pain management and effective communication techniques to reassure and instruct.

  • How to monitor a casualty’s vital signs while administering pain relief.

  • Key organisational protocols for storage, use, and disposal of restricted drugs in line with legislation and WHS/OHS requirements.

  • How to complete accurate documentation, reports, and handovers.

  • The importance of following medically endorsed protocols and organisational policies for administering analgesia.

What will I do in class?

  • Practise accessing, preparing, and safely administering analgesic drugs.

  • Learn to assess a casualty’s pain level and vital signs, and determine the need for analgesia.

  • Role-play communication with casualties to provide comfort and explain treatment.

  • Monitor and record a casualty’s response to pain management interventions.

  • Complete written logs and reports as required by organisational standards.

  • Participate in scenarios that require requesting ambulance or medical assistance.

  • Apply protocols for safe storage and disposal of analgesic drugs in line with organisational procedures.

 

Entry Requirements

 

Students must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.  

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. This is required prior to enrolments being processed. You will be guided through this in your enrollement.
