What do I have to do before class?
eLearning - Completed at your own pace, prior to the face-to-face training sessions.
eLearning will require internet access.
eLearning consists of learning materials and multiple choice questions
It takes most students between 1-2 hours, depending on your internet connection and prior knowlege.
You can do this on your phone, but you will need to use the landscape view.
It is easier to do it on a bigger device where possible.
You can log in, and out on any device
How long is this class?
Face-to-face practical assessment takes 8 hours.
What do I have to do in class?

Perform the recovery position
-
Perform CPR on an adult on the floor (incl. the use of an AED,)
-
Perform CPR on an infant
-
Manage a casualty with life-threatening bleeding using:
-
Tourniquets
-
Haemostatic dressings
-
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly during all procedures
-
Manage a conscious casualty who requires supplemental oxygen, including:
-
Assessing respirations, pulse, oxygen saturation, and level of consciousness
-
Selecting and preparing the correct oxygen equipment
-
Checking the area for safe ventilation and ignition risks
-
Administering oxygen safely at the correct flow rate
-
Managing an equipment malfunction
-
Provide an accurate verbal and written report of the incident

Review the incident as part of reflective practice
-
Monitor and coordinate resuscitation and oxygen therapy equipment maintenance, including:

Dismantling equipment correctly
-
Safe storage of all components
-
Disposal of used or faulty items
-
Cleaning and decontamination
-
Checking and diagnosing faults in equipment

You’ll learn how to:

Recognise and assess a cardiac emergency fast

Deliver effective CPR that meets Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines

Use an AED (automated external defibrillator)

Handle real-life complications like vomiting or regurgitation

Rotate safely with other first aiders to maintain compressions
We also cover what happens after the emergency:

How to hand over to emergency services with clarity and confidence

How to reflect on the incident and spot signs of psychological stress (in yourself and others)

What to do to improve your own response time and skills after an incident.
Advanced Resus & Oxgyen specific Skills

When and how to use tourniquets and haemostatic agents in bleeding control

The importance and proper use of PPE in infection control
-
How to assess and monitor a casualty’s vital signs, including oxygen saturation
-
How to safely select, prepare, and administer supplemental oxygen
-
What to check for when managing oxygen delivery in high-risk environments (ventilation, ignition hazards)
-
What to do if oxygen equipment malfunctions during use
-
How to accurately report first aid incidents
-
Procedures for cleaning, storing, and maintaining resuscitation and oxygen equipment
-
How to identify equipment faults and failures before or after use
During your training, you'll get hands-on and practical. You won’t just hear about emergencies — you’ll practise how to respond safely and effectively.
This isn’t just theory.
It’s practical, confidence-building training that prepares you to act — not freeze — in a moment of crisis.
Entry Requirements
Students must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. This is required prior to enrolments being processed. You will be guided through this in your enrollement.
