What do I have to do before class?

 

eLearning - Completed at your own pace, prior to the face-to-face training sessions. 

eLearning will require internet access.

eLearning consists of learning materials and multiple choice questions

It takes most students between 2-3 hours, depending on your internet connection and prior knowlege.

You can do this on your phone, but you will need to use the landscape view.

It is easier to do it on a bigger device where possible.

You can log in, and out on any device

How long is this class?

 

Face-to-face practical assessment takes 2 days of 8 hours.

What do I have to do in class?​

  • Perform the recovery position

  • Perform CPR on an adult on the floor (incl. the use of an AED,)

  • Perform CPR on an infant

  • Use a training EpiPen for anaphylaxis

  • Practise asthma puffers with a spacer

  • Clean and dress minor wounds

  • Treat major and minor bleeding and nosebleeds

  • Manage choking with back blows

  • Apply bandages for sprains, fractures & snake bites

  • Use slings, splints, and immobilisation techniques

  • Recognise and respond to shock

Advanced First Aid & Resus + Oxygen

  • Respond to at least two simulated first aid incidents

  • Identify casualty conditions using history, signs, and symptoms

  • Use PPE (gloves, mask, eyewear) correctly

  • Conduct a primary and secondary survey

  • Assess and monitor vital signs (pulse, breathing, temperature, consciousness)

  • Administer supplemental oxygen to a conscious or unconscious casualty

  • Select, assemble, and use the correct oxygen delivery equipment

  • Safely monitor oxygen flow and check for ignition or ventilation hazards

  • Use a Bag Valve Mask (BVM) on a non-breathing casualty

  • Manage malfunctioning oxygen equipment

  • Clean, decontaminate, and store oxygen and resuscitation gear

  • Identify, report, and record equipment faults

  • During your training, you'll get hands-on and practical. You won’t just hear about emergencies — you’ll practise how to respond safely and effectively.

What will I learn?

 

Cardiac arrest strikes without warning.

Seconds matter.

Without fast action, survival chances drop fast.

But with the right training, You become the difference.

In this nationally accredited CPR course, you won’t just learn what to do — you’ll walk away with a clear, step-by-step action plan you can follow when it matters most.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Recognise and assess a cardiac emergency fast

  • Call for help with the right information

  • Deliver effective CPR that meets Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines

  • Use an AED (automated external defibrillator)

  • Handle real-life complications like vomiting or regurgitation

  • Rotate safely with other first aiders to maintain compressions

We also cover what happens after the emergency:

  • How to hand over to emergency services with clarity and confidence

  • How to reflect on the incident and spot signs of psychological stress (in yourself and others)

  • What to do to improve your own response time and skills after an incident.

✅ Anaphylaxis (Severe Allergic Reaction)

  • Learn how to recognise signs of anaphylaxis fast

  • Practise using an EpiPen® auto-injector on a training device

  • Understand when and how to call for help

✅ Asthma

  • Simulate helping someone having an asthma attack

  • Use a reliever puffer and spacer (on a training mannequin)

  • Learn to calmly guide someone through their action plan

✅ Threatening & Non-life-threatening Bleeding

  • Apply direct pressure and dress minor cuts and grazes

  • Use gloves, dressings, and bandages from a real kit

  • Learn the difference between minor bleeding and serious bleeds

✅ Choking

  • Practise back blows and chest thrusts (on a manikin)

  • Learn the signs of partial vs complete airway blockage

  • Understand when CPR might be needed if choking escalates

✅ Envenomation (Snake, Spider, or Marine Stings)

  • Practise the pressure immobilisation technique using real bandages

  • Wrap a limb correctly to slow venom spread

  • Learn why movement can make it worse — and how to stay calm

✅ Fractures, Dislocations, Sprains & Strains

  • Use slings, splints, and bandages to immobilise injuries

  • Practise with both upper and lower limbs

  • Understand when to call 000 and what to do while waiting

✅ Minor Wound Cleaning & Dressing

  • Clean a simulated wound using saline and gauze

  • Apply appropriate dressings without contaminating the area

  • Learn hygiene basics for wound care

✅ Nosebleeds

  • Position a person safely and apply correct pressure

  • Know what not to do (like tipping the head back!)

  • Learn when a nosebleed needs medical help

✅ Shock (Body shutting down from injury or trauma)

  • Recognise early signs of shock (pale, cold skin, fast breathing)

  • Learn how to lie someone down safely

  • Practise keeping a person warm, calm, and breathing well until help arrives

  • The DRSABCD action plan in depth

  • How to prioritise treatment in multi-casualty incidents (basic triage)

  • Legal responsibilities and duty of care for advanced first aiders

  • Risk management for emergency situations

  • How to make clinical decisions in remote or high-risk settings

  • How oxygen therapy works and when it should be applied

  • Safe oxygen flow rates and device selection

  • Infection control principles for advanced equipment

  • National first aid guidelines and legal frameworks

  • When to escalate care to health professionals

This isn’t just theory.

It’s practical, confidence-building training that prepares you to act — not freeze — in a moment of crisis.

 

Entry Requirements

Students must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.  

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. This is required prior to enrolments being processed. You will be guided through this in your enrollement.
